With more than 10,000 students
competing for living space in the
second most-populous metropolitan
area in the state, the College of
Charleston sought to develop a
190,000-square-foot, multi-story
facility to house some 600 students.
Through thoughtful planning,
Keenan Development assessed and
coordinated the colleges needs while
meeting the stringent historic district
requirements of both the city of
Charleston and the state of South
Carolina to successfully deliver the
$18 million facility. |

Through thoughtful planning, Keenan
Development assessed and coordinated the
College of Charlestons needs with meeting the
stringent downtown historic district requirements
of both the city of Charleston and the
state of South Carolina, and successfully developed
this $18 million, multi-story, 600-student
residence hall facility.
Keenan Development used public/private funding
to complete the design/build/finance project,
which included student sleeping and living
quarters, associated study areas, commercial space and food service facilities. |
Subsequent
refinancing of this transaction allowed the
College to repay its rental and debt obligations
considerably sooner than originally planned,
thus saving the College and taxpayers significant
funds.
The facility is owned by a not-for-profit entity
affiliated with the College.
As is the case with all Keenan Development
projects, the Madren Center, Martin Inn and
Walker Course were completed on time and
within budget. |
